Shipping Policy.

Where we deliver, how long it takes, what it costs, and what to do if your order is delayed or damaged in transit.

1. Where we deliver

We deliver to all nine South African provinces. We currently do not ship outside South Africa. Remote or off-grid addresses may attract an additional fee, which we'll quote and confirm before dispatching.

2. Delivery options at checkout

You'll see two options on the checkout page:

  • Courier delivery — to the address you provide. Delivery fee is calculated by province at checkout and shown to you before payment.
  • Collection — free pickup at Stone Ridge Farm, Ncwadi Road, Umgungundlovo, KwaZulu-Natal 7270, by prior arrangement. We'll email you to confirm a collection slot.

3. Delivery fees

Courier fees vary by province and the size of your order (1L vs 5L vs 25L). The exact fee is calculated and displayed on the checkout page before you pay — no hidden costs. Bulk and trade orders are quoted separately; contact us before ordering large volumes.

4. Lead times

Typical times from payment confirmation to delivery:

  • KwaZulu-Natal main centres: 1–3 business days
  • Gauteng and Eastern Cape main centres: 2–4 business days
  • Western Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West: 3–5 business days
  • Northern Cape and remote / farm addresses: 4–7 business days

These are estimates — load-shedding, weather, courier strikes and other factors beyond our control can affect delivery. We always communicate proactively if there is a meaningful delay.

5. Order confirmation and tracking

  1. You receive an order confirmation email immediately after payment with your HCT-XXXXXX reference and a PDF invoice.
  2. Once we hand the order to the courier, we email you a tracking number (where the courier supports tracking).
  3. You receive a final confirmation when the order is marked delivered.

6. Damaged or short deliveries

Please inspect your delivery on arrival. If something is broken, leaking, missing or visibly damaged, photograph it and email paul@hobsonschoice.co.za within 48 hours. We replace or refund damaged/short items at our cost. See our Refund Policy for full details.

7. Failed deliveries

If the courier cannot deliver because the address is wrong, no one is available to sign, or access is refused, the parcel is returned to depot. A re-delivery fee (charged by the courier) is for your account. If we cannot reach you within 7 business days to arrange a re-delivery, the order is treated as cancelled and refunded less the original outbound delivery fee.

8. Risk and title

Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery (or on collection). Title passes on full payment.

9. Storage on arrival

Liquid Compost should be stored upright, out of direct sunlight, and between 5 °C and 30 °C. Full storage and handling guidance is on the product label and product information sheet.
